Understand gross and net working hours

The tools calculate elapsed shift time and subtract the unpaid break you enter. They do not decide whether a break is legally paid, unpaid or required. Use the rules applicable to your own agreed roster and enter the appropriate deduction.

A shift from 09:00 to 17:30 lasts 510 minutes. With a 30-minute unpaid break, the net result is 480 minutes, or eight hours. Two identical shifts total 960 minutes. The tool retains exact minutes and only formats the summary for display.

A break cannot be negative, equal to the shift length or longer than the shift. Salary, overtime premiums, public-holiday pay and rest-period compliance are outside the calculation. These totals are a planning aid, not payroll or legal advice.
